Prepared for a diverse and multi-cultural world and workplace
Throughout my undergraduate career at the University of Rhode Island, I have worked with and for people from all over the Northeast. As an intern, I have worked for television stations and publications in Rhode Island, New York and Connecticut. I am from a town right outside New York, which has played in my favor and has allowed me to become prepared for a diverse and multi-cultural world and workplace.
One summer, I took on three internship positions in print and broadcast journalism. I was an intern for a parenting magazine in New York City (NYMetroParents), an intern for a TV station in New Haven (WTNH/ABC 8) and an intern for an online publication called Alive Campus. These three internships afforded me the opportunity to work with a wide range of people and experience three different environments centered around media.
I have also had the opportunity to work with people new to the business of journalism and people who are experts in this industry. By exposing myself to people of all levels, I have gained experience working with many different types of people. Not only has it been through journalism that I have worked with people from different backgrounds, but it is also through my other interests that I have been exposed to many different people. For example, I also major in Spanish and minor Nutrition. These two classes alone have taught me what it's like to work with people from different career backgrounds.
For the purpose of this outcome, I have included pictures of the many people I have worked with over the years. I have been a Harrington Ranger for the Harrington School of Communication and Media for three years now and through this position I have worked with our alumni, current students and prospective students. As an office secretary for the Journalism Department, I have met many people from different backgrounds and careers. I am also a CrossFit coach, which means I work with people of all different fitness levels and ages. A passion of mine has always been to impact others in a positive way and being a coach has allowed me to meet young and older athletes and affect them in the best way possible. In my opinion, this outcome cannot be measured or understood in writing, but instead can be shown with pictures of all the people I have had the pleasure of working with over the years.
I have however, included the Good Five Cent Cigar newscast as a representation of the people I am currently working very closely with. Many of our reporters and anchors are still beginning their careers as reporters, but they are valuable to our newscast nonetheless. Everyone contributes to our weekly show and is an important part of our team, regardless of age, interests, gender or race.

Good Five Cent Cigar NewscastFor this particular newscast, I put together a package on the new synthetic human cadavers acquired by URI. In addition to my news package, other reporters put together their own weekly stories and the anchors/producers worked in the studio to put it all together. This experience has allowed me to work with journalists who are just as passionate as I am and with students who are interested in learning new skills in the field of journalism. My last semester as a senior has been incredible because of this opportunity and I am so grateful to have been asked to be a part of this organization.
