MILLIONS OF AMERICANS ON THE EAST COAST...BRACING THEMSELVES...PREPARING FOR RECORD-BREAKING SNOWFALL THIS WEEKEND.

OVERNIGHT-- CARS WERE LINED UP BUMPER TO BUMPER FOR MILES, AS DRIVERS TRIED TO GET THROUGH THE MESS. MANY LOSING CONTROL OF THEIR VEHICLES, CRASHING INTO ONE ANOTHER… CAUSING CHAOS.
 
SOT: "So I drove home from work and I'm not used to driving in snow, so it was pretty rough driving home, it took a while"

NOT ONLY DID THE SNOWFALL AFFECT DRIVERS, IT ALSO AFFECTED PRESIDENT OBAMA. HIS RETURN TO THE WHITE HOUSE WAS DELAYED, DUE TO THE LESS THAN TWO INCHES OF SNOW.
 
IN MONTGOMERY COUNTY MARYLAND, JUST OUTSIDE WASHINGTON...CARS WERE STUCK ON ROADWAYS FOR HOURS.
 
SOT: "Just trying to stay off the roads"
 
ALONG INTERSTATE 66, AN ENDLESS SHINE OF RED BRAKE LIGHTS COULD BE SEEN. SOME DRIVERS OPTING TO LEAVE THEIR CARS RIGHT THERE ON THE HIGHWAY.
 
SOT: "it usually takes me 20 to 25 minutes to get to work.  I've been sitting here in traffic...for almost 5 hours."
 
MANY STATES INCLUDING NORTH CAROLINA AND MASSACHUSETTS ARE UNDER WINTER STORM WATCHES THIS MORNING. AS THE POTENTIAL BLIZZARD MOVES NORTH, AREAS LIKE NEW YORK AND PHILADELPHIA ARE EXPECTED TO BE HIT HARD.
 
THE GOVERNOR OF MARYLAND LARRY HOGAN SAYS PREPARATION IS KEY.
 
SOT Hogan: "We don't want to overreact, but we encourage people to start getting prepared."

WITH LESS THAN 48 HOURS UNTIL ANOTHER ROUND OF SNOW IS EXPECTED TO HIT, D-C OFFICIALS ARE URGING EVERYONE TO TAKE EXTREME PRECAUTION. IN PREPARING FOR THE MAJOR STORM, SNOW TEAMS HAVE INCREASED THE NUMBER OF PLOWS AND SNOW TRUCKS ON THE ROADS.

Jan. 4: In-Show Recaps

In an effort to reduce homelessness in New York,, Governor Andrew Cuomo is requiring local governments to take homeless people off the streets and place them into shelters.
Local governments are not ordered to remove homeless people by force, if necessary, once temperatures drop to 32 degrees or below.
Governor Cuomo signed the order on sunday, and went into effect today. 

A position, traditionally filled by a sworn officer, will instead, be filled by a civilian in Newark.
Mayor Ras Baraka intends to appoint a lawyer with significant police experience to head the departments internal affairs division. 
The department is looking for someone who they can trust can be fair, a step towards improving police and community relations.

A beloved elementary school principal in Rockland County has passed away, after a long battle with cancer.
63-year-old Patricia Simmons had been the principal of Fleetwood Elementary School in Chestnut Ridge since 2001.
A memorial service is scheduled for this Saturday at the First Baptist Church. 


Jan. 12: In-Show Recap

A man has been arrested, after attempting to kidnap a baby on Long Island.

Police say, 44-year-old Craig Myckowski allegedly ordered a 65-year-old nanny to give him the 20-month-old baby in her stroller, telling her she was "pushing a dead baby."

Authorities say the woman went back to the home, trying to get away from the suspect, but he followed , and stole the empty stroller. 

He was later found by police, naked inside a psychotherapist's office.

​Charges against him include child endangerment and burglary.

Volunteers braved the cold today in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., as part of Newburgh's Habitat for Humanity service day.

People of all skill levels and ages were welcome to participate
Several construction projects included clean ups, and interior demolitions at several locations in the area. 
Kids were also encouraged to get in on the fun with their own special project, building and painting bird houses, that they could either take him or donate.

According to the Newburgh affiliate, they're the most productive in the hudson valley, having constructed 75 homes and serving 80 families in the area.
